Course Overview

The GCSE mathematics curriculum allows students to:

  • Develop knowledge, skill and understanding of mathematical methods and concepts, including; number, algebra, geometry, measures, statistics, probability and rates of change
  • Use their knowledge and understanding to select and apply mathematical techniques and methods in everyday and real-world situations
  • Acquire and use problem-solving strategies
  • Reason mathematically, make deductions and inferences and draw conclusions

A variety of topics will be covered across the 2 years, including Exam Preparation.

Exams

We offer students the opportunity to sit the IGCSE exam in November and GCSE exam in May/June. The Edexcel GCSE exam is graded 100% on three 1 hour 30 minute exams; 1 non-calculator and 2 calculator papers. They contain a mix of question styles, from short, single-mark questions to multi-step problems.

Students must take the three question papers at the same tier.                                              Foundation tier - Grades 5 to 1
Higher tier - Grades 9 to 4

The Edexcel IGCSE exam is graded 100% on two 2 hour exam papers, both are calculator. Students must take the two question papers at the same tier.

Extra Information

Students are given access to Mathspad and Tassomai, to help strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the subject. Further support is given in select half term revision sessions.
